Medicare.gov Introduces New Secure Login Options
Medicare beneficiaries will notice new security features when signing in to MyMedicare.gov as part of an effort by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to better protect personal health information and reduce the risk of fraud and identity theft.
What Has Changed?
If you already have a MyMedicare account, you may see new security features the next time you log in.
If you are creating a MyMedicare account for the first time, you will now need to:
- Provide a personal email address.
- Verify your identity using ID.me, Login.gov, or CLEAR.
- Use a smartphone or a computer with a camera to complete the identity verification process.
If you already use Login.gov to access your Social Security account, CMS recommends using the same login method for your MyMedicare account.
Before Your SHINE Appointment
If you plan to meet with a SHINE counselor, log in to your MyMedicare account before your appointment to make sure you can access your Medicare information. This can help avoid delays during your counseling session.
Be sure to keep your MyMedicare password in a secure location for future reference.
Please note that SHINE counselors are not able to create or manage MyMedicare accounts or passwords.
