International College of Infection Control Professionals opens registration for an interactive, CBIC approved five IPU forum featuring Dr Allison McGeer

TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, October 1, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- The International College of Infection Control Professionals has opened registration for the Long-Term Care IPAC Leadership Forum 2026, an in-person professional-development event taking place Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at Hazelton Manor in Vaughan, Ontario.

The program runs from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with doors opening at 8:00 a.m. It is designed for long-term care infection prevention and control leads and the leaders, clinicians and operational partners who work alongside them. The forum has been approved by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology for five Infection Prevention Units.

Dr. Allison McGeer will open the program with a keynote on IPAC leadership in long-term care. The planned agenda then moves through wound and urine culture decisions, construction and renovation risks, leading IPAC without formal authority, an audience-run outbreak simulation and leadership during the first 24 hours of an outbreak. Sessions use polling, scenarios and game-show formats to connect technical knowledge with decisions participants face in their homes. The agenda remains subject to change.

Participants will be asked to compare options, explain their reasoning and work through operational situations rather than only listen to presentations. The program is intended to support discussion among IPAC Leads, nursing and clinical leaders, administrators, educators and other team members whose decisions affect infection prevention. A vendor marketplace and scheduled networking periods provide additional opportunities to exchange resources and implementation ideas.

The forum comes as Ontario long-term care homes continue to carry defined responsibilities for IPAC leadership, interdisciplinary program implementation, surveillance and quality management. Ontario Regulation 246/22 requires every licensed home to maintain an IPAC program and sets responsibilities for the IPAC Lead and the home’s leadership team. Public Health Ontario’s 2026 long-term-care best-practice guidance also emphasizes leadership support, communication, education, auditing and feedback as core elements of an effective program.

“IPAC Leads are expected to interpret complex requirements, influence practice across departments and make sound decisions under pressure,” said Kamyab Ghatan, M.D., AL-CIP™, CIC®, LTC-CIP®, DISIPC, CDIPC, Founder and Chief Academic Officer of the International College of Infection Control Professionals. “We created this forum so participants can work through those decisions with experienced specialists and peers, then return to their homes with ideas they can use.”

The forum includes a continental breakfast, lunch, networking breaks and a vendor marketplace. The registration page lists an early-bird attendee price of $125 plus HST until October 15, followed by a price of $169 plus HST.

The College states that 100 per cent of the forum’s net proceeds will be donated to Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders in support of its Ebola response in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The donation statement does not represent or imply an endorsement, sponsorship or partnership by Doctors Without Borders.

Registration and the current agenda are available at forum.icicp.com.
