DEC Region 5 Announces Fall Pheasant Hunts
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today announced partner-sponsored pheasant and waterfowl hunting opportunities for women, youth, and others new to the sport. Scheduled in Essex and Washington counties, these free events are open to licensed hunters interested in learning more about hunting, building confidence and skills, and connecting with both new and experienced hunters. Dedicated volunteers organize these hunts to promote safe and enjoyable hunting experiences.
Upcoming Hunts
Chesterfield Fish and Game Club Youth Pheasant Hunt
WHO: Youth ages 12 to 15 with a valid New York State hunting license.
WHEN: October 4, 8:00 a.m.– 4:00 p.m.
WHERE: 359 Green St, Keeseville, NY 12944, Essex County
COST: Free. Please bring your own lunch and drinks

Washington County Women’s Pheasant Hunt
WHO: Women and anyone interested in attending. Must have a valid New York State hunting license.
WHEN: October 3, 2026, 8:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
WHERE: 2978 County Route 46, Fort Edward, NY 12828, Washington County
COST: Free, and lunch and drinks will be provided on both days

Applications to host sponsored pheasant hunts are still being accepted, and events may be held at any point during an open pheasant season. Hosts can also introduce new or inexperienced hunters to pheasant hunting after the close of the regular deer season. To learn more about sponsoring a hunt, visit DEC’s website.
