AnewHealth Names Nationally Recognized Geriatrician and PACE Leader Dr. James Mittelberger Chief Medical Officer

With decades of experience advancing care for older adults and people with complex medical needs, Dr. Mittelberger will help lead AnewHealth’s clinical strategy and continued innovation in medication management and pharmacy care.

MOORESTOWN, N.J., Oct. 08, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- AnewHealth, a national leader in advanced pharmacy solutions for people with complex medical needs, today announced the appointment of James Mittelberger, MD, MPH, as Chief Medical Officer.

Dr. Mittelberger is a nationally recognized physician executive with decades of experience advancing care for older adults and people with complex medical needs across Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE), value-based care, palliative care, home-based care, hospice, primary care, and other clinical settings.

Most recently, Dr. Mittelberger served as Chief Medical Officer for the Center for Elders’ Independence (CEI), a California-based PACE organization, where he helped lead the expansion of operations from three to six regional centers and supported growth from approximately 750 to more than 1,500 participants. Previously, he served as Chief Medical Officer of Hospice by the Bay and held leadership positions with UnitedHealth Group and Optum, including Founder and Chief Medical Officer of the Optum Center for Palliative and Supportive Care. He also served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Coalition for Compassionate Care of California.

For more than 15 years, AnewHealth has supported organizations caring for people with complex medical needs, including PACE programs and value-based care organizations nationwide. Through its MedWise® technology and advanced clinical pharmacy services, AnewHealth works alongside care teams to reduce medication-related risk, improve medication use, and drive stronger clinical, quality, and financial outcomes.

Dr. Mittelberger’s appointment reflects AnewHealth’s continued investment in the clinical leadership, technology, and care models required to address one of the most persistent challenges facing complex populations: increasingly complicated medication regimens and the avoidable risk they can create.

“Dr. Mittelberger has spent his career at the intersection of clinical care, innovation, and the needs of people with some of the most complex health conditions,” said Brian Adams, President and CEO of AnewHealth. “That perspective is incredibly important as we continue to expand the role pharmacy can play as part of the broader care team. His experience in PACE, value-based care, and care delivery will help us strengthen our clinical strategy, accelerate innovation, and ultimately deliver even greater value for the people and organizations we serve.”

As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Mittelberger will help shape AnewHealth’s advanced clinical strategy, guide innovation across its medication management and pharmacy solutions, and work closely with partners to advance models of care designed around the needs of older adults and other complex populations.

That work is increasingly important as healthcare organizations look for more effective ways to manage medication complexity, reduce avoidable risk, and coordinate care across settings.

“Medication complexity is one of the most significant and addressable challenges facing older adults and people living with complex medical needs,” said Dr. Mittelberger. “Meeting that challenge with excellence requires a sophisticated understanding of each patient’s priorities and needs. Having served as Chief Medical Officer at Center for Elders’ Independence, I experienced firsthand the clinical expertise, innovation, and personalization AnewHealth brings to care teams navigating medication complexity. I am excited to now help advance that work from within the organization.”

Dr. Mittelberger’s appointment further strengthens AnewHealth’s clinical leadership as the company expands its work with PACE programs and other organizations responsible for the health and outcomes of complex populations.

AnewHealth will join PACE leaders, clinicians, and partners at the 2026 National PACE Association Annual Conference, October 11-14 in Denver, where the company will share its latest work across clinical pharmacy, medication intelligence, technology, and care delivery.
